Abstract
The exportation of recyclable wastes is a growing practice, as it is often more profitable for developed countries to send wastes to developing countries with high demand for raw materials than invest in their own recycling installations. Direct emissions, energy and material consumption, and the displacement of virgin material production are the main factors contributing to the environmental impacts of a recycling technology.
